Animals are suffering to make fashion items being sold in UK shops
An undercover investigation found arctic foxes with deformed feet and diseased eyes in cages. Finnish fox fur is sold in top British stores. WARNING: Some readers may find this content distressing.
Hello and welcome to EarthWatch with Nada Farhoud.
Since banning fur farming in 2000 on ethical grounds, you might be shocked to learn the UK has imported more than £850million of fur and £11m of it from Finland.
It is used for fashion items sold in stores such as Harrods, but if those who buy it could see the suffering that goes into this trade, I’d hope they would think twice.
What I witnessed during my investigation in Finland - the biggest producer of fox fur in Europe - doesn’t make for an easy read, but it’s important to highlight what really goes on, in order to push for change.
I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments section.
