Our fast fashion fixation is polluting the shores of Africa
I travelled over 3,000 miles to Ghana where the capital is overflowing with our mess.
It’s estimated that more than two tonnes of clothing are bought each minute in the UK.
Last year we spent a record £62.2 billion on new outfits - the most in Europe and double what the stylish Italians buy.
When a t-shirt costs as little as £2 it's easy to have little attachment and think nothing of getting rid of it after a few wears.
This turnover of cheap items made to cater for our ever changing tastes is known as fast-fashion and it comes at a huge environmental cost.
Following the trail from England, I travelled over 3,000 miles to Ghana which is the largest recipient of our old clothes.
Many have been donated to charity shops or put in recycling bins with the very best of intentions.
